A Leader’s Passion
In 2001, Dorothy Pentzke embarked on a new chapter of her entrepreneurial story when she began the development of a Mentor/Protégé program for the New York and New Jersey Port Authority (NY/NJ PA).
This opportunity sparked a great passion for enhancing the chances of Minority and Women-Owned Businesses (MWBE) to achieve success at increasingly high levels of competition.
Since first launching the full NY/NJ PA program in 2002, she has been able to provide similar opportunities for small businesses in the Building Trades Employers Association (BTEA): New York’s Alliance of Union Contractors.
Dorothy applies her technical knowledge, passion for community development and continuous improvement to constantly refresh her programs to meet the ever-evolving needs of her members.
Creating a consortium of dedicated professionals, has allowed Dorothy to meet the developmental needs of MWBE in a variety of critical areas to create a blueprint for long term business success.
Develop diverse communities of mentors, protégé, and other professionals dedicated to fostering opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses (MWBE) to enhance qualifications and revenue potential through mentor-protégé relationships, community involvement, and education.
Mission
Pentzke Group II, LLC is a consortium of professionals dedicated to the continual advancement of small businesses and has been in business for over 20 years.
It is registered with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the Empire State Development Corporation as a woman-owned minority business. Since September 2001, the firm has served as the Program Manager for The Port Authority of NY & NJ’s – Mentor/Protégé Program undertaken under the auspices of the PA’s Engineering Department.
More recently, since 2008, the firm has also undertaken the management of the Building Trades Employers Association of New York City (BTEANYC) – a union based Mentor/Protégé Program. Our only focus has been the management of Mentor/Protégé Programs. We have initiated contact with other government and private entities that are interested in establishing mentor/protégé programs. Pentzke Group was retained by Lehman College (City University of New York) and the Small Business Administration, to develop a “Construction Management Program” in association with major construction corporations. The effort entailed research to identify one hundred disadvantaged (MWBD) companies in the Bronx and lower Westchester, of which 32 participated in the program and 17 graduated. All the graduates wanted to pursue further mentoring efforts.
The primary focus of the company has been for the development of the New York / New Jersey Port Authority Mentor/Protégé Program and its management from inception in 2001. We are now expanding our focus to include other regions where government and major contractors our mission.
Over the history of the program, we have consistently upgraded and improved the components of the program based upon feedback from both the Authority and Participants in the Program – both Mentor and Protégé input.
