Since 2000, Dorothy Pentzke has collaborated with the PANYNJ to develop a unique mentor protégé program specifically focused on bringing “B” and “C” level contractors into the program Contractors evaluated by the PA NY/NJ as to having the capability to execute contracts in the $500,000 to $1,500,000 range are qualified as “B” and contractors who are determined to be capable of work over $1,500,000 are qualified as “C” range. The program then elevates these minority and women owned firms to qualify for larger value contracts.

In 2010, the program was expanded to include “A” level contractors (i.e. firms who qualify to perform up to $500,000 in contract value). These protégés participate on a limited basis with no specific mentor assigned, however, attend seminars and have access to networking opportunities. This exposure assists their efforts to migrate to “B” level contractors. The program has evolved to include a number of innovative initiatives including a participation-based membership of major Construction Corporations – (i.e. Turner, Tishman, Judlau, Yonkers, Granite Construction, Tudor/Perini, Railroad Construction etc.).

One of the most impressive programs researched was the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

Great, this was a powerful program for me. I was one of the first.
— Protégé
Our mentor was always available whenever I called. It’s comforting to know that someone would be there if you really need it.
— Protégé
We have benefitted greatly from this program. Our current workload speaks for itself
