In 2008, Dorothy Pentzke began the development process for the BTEA mentoring program.

The original 12-month training and mentoring program has grown into an ongoing, multi-faceted program that provides mentoring, and training in construction related subjects, finance, business development, contract law and other subjects for Minority and Women Contractor members of the BTEA.

BTEA Program objectives are to provide learning and development opportunities designed to nurture MWBE owners and leadership so their businesses are sustainable, viable and available options for prime and general contractors in the New York construction community.

Mentor recruitment and participation is critical to the success of the BTEA Mentor Protégé Program. Mentors are recruited and accepted into the program based on their commitment, expertise and talents in the following key areas:

  • Ability to provide On the Job Training as applicable and appropriate to the skill set of the protégé

  • Commitment to actively participate in the planning and execution of Networking Events

  • Leverage and share talents as Leaders in the construction industry and commit to developing the overall skills of protégé so that; they too, can become leaders

  • Foster environments conducive to Building sustainable teams

We have benefited greatly from this program. Our current workload speaks for itself
